IKIU aims to establish itself as a Pioneer Research Institution achieving International Scientific Recognition in region Higher Education, offering Competitive Programmes and to become a Centre of Excellence in the wider neighboring and Asian Region.

Imam Khomeini International University offers more than 180 Bachelor, Master and Doctoral Programs in basic sciences, engineering, social sciences, humanities, economics and management taught in Persian and English. The number of IKIU alumni exceeds 1700000 people.

The IKIU has placed a high priority on international activities by this mean the university is equipped with the world biggest center for Persian Language Center (PLC) and enjoys a high number of foreign students form a wide variety of countries.

PLC established in 1991 for responding to the world’s people who are interested in learning Persian language as second or foreign language.

In accordance with its Statutes and as a public service, the Imam Khomeini International University teaches the necessary courses for the education of students , training for pursuing professional or artistic activities and the obtaining, where necessary, the corresponding degrees, as well as lifelong learning of the University Staff and Faculty at all levels.

On top of that, the Imam Khomeini International University encourages the search of new knowledge, scientific and technological development, the evaluation of the results obtained by them, both in relation of basic research as well as applied, transferring research results to the production sectors, contributing to the technical progress and the economic and social development.

In the same way, with its own rationality and universality guarantee, the Imam Khomeini International University is an institution spreading culture and science in society, making its access easier, improving and taking in intellectual and critical analysis activities in all the fields of culture and knowledge.

In order to fulfil all these functions, the Imam Khomeini International University, according to its Statutes, is organised, depending on each goal, in departments, faculties, schools of engineering, halls of residence, and all those centres, services and units necessary for the carrying out of its functions.

The departments are university bodies responsible of organising and developing research, teachings and any other university activities related with an area of knowledge or a group of areas, which affinity or relation justifies its association from a scientific point of view and under efficiency criteria.

The faculties and the school of engineering are the centres in charge of administrative management and the organisation of the university teachings leading to the obtaining of academic degrees, as well as the spread of culture. On its behalf, the university research institutes are centres mainly focused on scientific and technical research, as well as artistic creation. They also may carry out teaching activities related with specialised education or doctoral courses, and provide technical expertise in the area of their competence.
The institutes of the Imam Khomeini International University have as subject of research fields of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary study fields, just like the interdisciplinary research structures.

The general character services of the Imam Khomeini International University are functional units tasked with carrying out activities that are necessary for the fulfilment of the goals of the Imam Khomeini International University and that are not specific of the departments or centres.

The halls of residence are university centres that, as part of the Imam Khomeini International University, provide high priority accommodation for the members of the university community and promote human, culture and scientific training of its collegians, projecting its activity to the service of all the university community.
